What a Difference a Leader Makes

Our definition of a leader is one who instils a will for all employees to improve. These improvements will ultimately alter the employee’s risk profile and subsequently the risk profile of the business. Great leaders aspire to leave the business in better shape for the next CEO.

We were working on a national project and collected identical data on two similar size business branches in NSW. We now had a direct and real comparison of the two branches. One branch presented an overall low risk profile within a harmonious work environment. The other branch revealed high risk profiles within a toxic work environment.

During our involvement with both branches, the organisation’s HQ moved the branch manager from the “healthy” branch to the “not so healthy” branch. Over the next 24 months the impact of the new leader on the not so healthy workplace was obvious. The “unhealthy, high risk toxic branch workplace” was replaced by a more conducive work environment generating lower risk profiles across the employees.

The work we are currently doing with Office Solutions IT (OSIT) in their Perth office has seen the CEO extend the offering to the team in the trial health, wellbeing and performance program. This extension has arisen because of the data that was obtained from the group in the initial assessment. It means action has been taken by the CEO.  All individuals in the trial can now access professional services to improve their own risk profile and subsequently that of the company.

Leadership within Thompson and Redwood (T&R) has always been a standout element in the work we are doing with them and their employees. Not only have the leaders at T&R extended the appropriate professional services offered to their employees but they also altered some of their management practises. The MD has said, “We lead differently now we are aware of the group data and what it means to the business”.

Leadership does make an enormous difference. It has been our privilege to work with an increasing number of leaders who want to make a difference. Their approach greatly impacts the health, wellbeing and performance of their employees and organisation.
